NaPoWriMo: April 3

Intro to Lit: Dramatic Irony

We get sick ya-yas on the couch
from knowing more than the characters
do: she's your mother, sicko! You're
about to murder your own father!

Next morning, it's you in the draft.
And maybe you see something
you weren't supposed to see,
and it knocks you down with the force
of an aria. The soprano game-changer.
A line of thread in Tyche's blouse.

And you know right off it's the truth
because lies feels differently rolling
around in your guts. The truth
stabs like a giant bull-nettle, a teeny
tiny cipher popping all your balloons
faster than you can air up new ones.

And we still listen to her sing
because it's the only voice singing.
